Channeling Fear into Something Good

Stress and anxiety can be all-consuming—especially amidst a pandemic. After unexpectedly losing my Dad last year, the thought of anything happening to my Mom, an RN whose primary job the past four months has been to put PICC lines in Covid-19 patients, terrifies me.

I spent a lot of time and energy in March entertaining the “what if” scenarios of the virus. After a few weeks of paralyzing thoughts, I realized I wasn’t serving myself, my Mom, and my those around me in any way (by succumbing to fear). I needed to pivot my thoughts.

When I need to break an unhealthy thought pattern, the first thing I do is visit my meditation cushion. I sit and breathe through the thoughts, allowing them to move through my mind… without hijacking my homeostasis. Something that came to me during these sessions was offering communal meditations (hence our “30 Day Wellness Accountability Challenge”) which would provide an opportunity to channel the fearful energy into something that could potentially benefit and help others. Offering the sessions on Facebook live allowed the chance for people to converse and ask questions, while also  healthcare workers, parents, and people with hectic schedules to view them in our library at their convenience.

This week at Camp PiP, during our first discussion about gratitude, several students expressed feeling very grateful for healthcare workers and their bravery. When I asked what they thought we could do to show how thankful we are, one of them yelled, “we need to teach them yoga!” And so, we did. Click here to watch a sweet, heart-warming video of Camp PiP students teaching ways to relax and alleviate stress.

During our daily check-ins, I’d often nudge my Mom to take a yoga class to help unwind at the end of her long work day. She’d often share that she wanted to, but was too physically, emotionally, and mentally drained to plug-in and participate in a live class. Hearing this message reverberate led to the creation of readily available for her, and others with schedules like hers…

This month, we are thrilled to launch our PiP On Demand streaming service! For $33 a month, you can enjoy our yoga, meditation, and strength training classes at your convenience. As a thank you to our healthcare workers, we are offering PiP On Demand for $11 a month through the end of 2020. Email a copy of your work ID to hello@peaceinpiermont.com for the promo code!
